The KDE Project announced today the third stability update to the KDE Applications 18.08 open-source software suite, a bugfix update that marks the end of life of the series.

KDE Applications 18.08.3 is now available as the third and last point release of the open-source and cross-platform KDE Applications 18.08 software suite, brining about 20 20 bugfixes and improvements to applications like Ark, Dolphin, Kate, KDE Games, Kontact, Okular, and Umbrello, as well as translation updates.

Highlights of this last point release include the ability for the KMail email client to remember the HTML viewing mode, as well as to load external images if allowed, support for the Kate text editor to remember meta information, including bookmarks, between sessions, and updated automatic scrolling in the Telepathy text UI.

The Umbrello IDE now lets users run "docbook export" from the build directory, KItinerary data model and extraction tool for travel reservation information now automatically detects leading space in compact and international DB tickets, and Dolphin file manager no longer enables two-click renaming in single-click mode.

Furthermore, the Ark archive manager has been updated with support for disabling the Compress menu on remote URLs and the ability to display the "Extract" menu on archives without extension, and the Cantor mathematics application no longer features the --simple-prompt Sage parameter. KDE Applications 18.12 launches December 13, 2018

As mentioned before, KDE Applications 18.08.3 is the third and last point release for the KDE Applications 18.08 software suite series, which now reached end of life and will not receive further updates to its components and applications. Therefore, we recommend all users to update to this release as soon as possible.

The next major release of KDE's open-source software suite will be KDE Applications 18.12, which is currently in development and should launch next month on December 13. KDE Applications 18.12 will be supported until March 2019, and will be available for beta testing next week on November 15, 2018.

The KDE Project also announced this week the release and general availability of the KDE Plasma 5.14.3 desktop environment, and plans to release the KDE Frameworks 5.52 open-source software suite this coming weekend, on November 10, which will be needed for the upcoming KDE Plasma 5.15 desktop environment.
