The new iPhone generation will launch tomorrow

Apple’s highly-anticipated iPhone 12 unveiling is taking place tomorrow, and needless to say, the excitement around this moment is at new highs.

And it’s all because of the rumored improvements coming to the iPhone 12 generation, but also because the launch event has been pushed back from the typical September announcement to October 13. People close to the matter said that Apple had to deal with several struggles in the production planning phase, as its suppliers were hit by the global health issue and some factories no longer worked at the expected pace.

And this speculation seems to be backed by the rumored release dates of the new iPhones, as some specific configurations would only go on sale in November.

First of all, it’s important to know that as compared to the 2019 generation, the 2020 lineup will include four different models, as it follows:

  • 5.4-inch all-new iPhone 12 mini
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max

The new addition to the lineup is the 5.4-inch model, which will be specifically aimed at customers who don’t want to pay a premium price for the iPhone and would rather stick with a smaller screen. Needless to say, iPhone SE buyers could be particularly targeted by the iPhone 12 mini, though it goes without saying this model would be more expensive than the 4.7-inch device.

However, it’s a new small iPhone that comes with the full feature package – iPhone SE lacks Face ID and a new-generation camera, so the iPhone 12 mini would bring all of these most likely with a body that features nearly the same dimensions given the removal of the home button and the smaller bezels.

Next up is the 6.1-inch iPhone 12, which will be a direct successor to the iPhone 11. This time, the device will come with an OLED panel, and the rumor mill suggests that a massive upgrade would come in the camera department too. However, the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 are both likely to feature a dual-camera setup with the same specs.

The two models are likely to come with 64GB of storage on the base models, but a 128GB version will also be offered.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro will be the upgraded iPhone 11 Pro, so the big change this year is the bigger screen. The triple-camera setup will also get new an upgrade, with better zoom and refined sensors, and there’s a chance Apple will also introduce additional refinements for Face ID and the screen.

This is the company’s high-end version that’s likely to sell in bigger numbers than the Max, especially because of its dimensions. However, it’s believed the iPhone 12 Pro Max would also come with upgraded camera specs over the standard Pro, so those wanting the best of the best would just have to go for the 6.7-inch version.

All iPhones launching this year would come with 5G capabilities, and people close to the matter said Apple was also planning a 4G model that could go live in early 2021.

This could be a non-5G version of the iPhone 12 mini, and right now, rumor has it that the launch would only happen in those markets where 5G isn’t yet available. On the other hand, this is just speculation right now, and Apple isn’t expected to discuss such plans until 2021.

While the iPhone 12 will go up on pre-order as soon as this Friday, the iPhone 12 Pro Max will only arrive in November due to the production struggles I told you about earlier. So it’ll take a little bit longer until the full iPhone 12 lineup is here, though right now, it’s all just a matter of weeks.
