Microsoft says it is already working on a fix

Microsoft has acknowledged a new bug in the latest Windows 11 preview build. Shipped earlier this week to users in the Dev and Beta channels, Windows 11 build 22610 could break down the “Show hidden icons” flyout in the operating system, with Microsoft saying it’s aware of the whole thing.

However, it looks like not everybody is affected, and the company says it’s already investigating the glitch.

For the time being, however, no ETA is available as to when the whole thing could be resolved, but Microsoft should obviously come up with a cumulative update or a new build to address it.

The company, however, has found a workaround that does the trick for the affected users, though obviously it’s not exactly the most convenient.

“After upgrading to Build 22610, the “Show hidden icons” flyout in the system tray may disappear completely for some Insiders, even though it shows as “on” under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and “Other system tray icons”. We are investigating the issue. As a workaround if you need access to the icons that would show in the “Show hidden icons” flyout, you can go right-click on taskbar to open the Taskbar settings page, navigate to the “Other system tray icons” and individuals toggle specific apps to “On” until the issue is resolved,” the company explains.

New Task Manager glitch

Microsoft has also confirmed another glitch in this Windows 11 preview build, with the company explaining it affects the new Efficiency mode bundled with the app.

“Enabling Efficiency mode from the command bar in Task Manager can cause the process list to fluctuate between the Apps and Background groups on the Processes page. As a workaround, right-click and use the context menu to enable/disable Efficiency mode then close and re-open Task Manager,” Microsoft says.
