Stunning screen-to-body ratio planned by Samsung

Phone makers have been struggling for several generations to increase the available screen estate and reduce the bezels, and as new models come out, we’re getting closer to the point where new devices launch with a nearly all-screen design.

Samsung is getting ready to make a major step towards this milestone with the release of the Galaxy S10 next year, as a new report indicates that the company wants its anniversary model to set a new record in this regard.

The top-of-the-range S10 could boast a screen-to-body ratio of no less than 93.4%, which is more than the majority of phones on the market right now. The leader is the Oppo Find X which has a ratio of 93.8 percent. Apple’s iPhone XS Max, for instance, has a screen-to-body ratio of 84.4%.

Samsung is planning three different Galaxy S10 models, and the base model is unlikely to boast this design approach. Furthermore, people close to the matter said there’s a good chance this version would feature a flat display with no curved edges, while also sticking with just 4GB RAM and 64GB storage as cost-saving measures.

Battery upgrade

Today’s report also indicates that Samsung Galaxy S10 may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8150 or the Exynos 9820 in an approach similar to the one of the previous generations. The Qualcomm version will be sold in specific markets like the United States, while the Exynos would be launched as the international version.

A substantial battery upgrade is also planned, so the S10 may feature a 4,000 mAh unit, just like the one on the Note 9. At this point, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ uses a 3,500 mAh battery.

The new-generation model could be announced in late January or early February and ship in several new colors, including green and yellow. Mass production hasn’t yet started though and certain changes could still be made.
