While Windows 10 April 2018 Update cumulative update KB4103721 appears to be causing the biggest headaches for Microsoft users this month, the experience with May 2018 patches on other versions of the operating system might not be flawless either.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4103727, which is specifically aimed at systems running the Fall Creators Update (version 1709), might also hit the typical installation bugs that have been plaguing these updates for so many months.

I’ve received messages from some of our readers pointing me to failed installs of cumulative update KB4103727, and upon further searching online, it looks like a small number of devices are indeed experiencing such issues.

Isolated reports of failed installs

Right now, there are only isolated cases of problems caused by KB4103727, such as this report on Microsoft’s Community forum where one user reveals that “the update downloads, but won’t finish installing,” eventually failing with error 0x800706be. At the time of writing this article, 9 other users clicked the “I have the same question” button, which might suggest that the same bug happens on several other systems too.

Microsoft says it is aware of just a single bug in cumulative update KB4103727, and it has nothing to do with failed installs.

“Some non-English platforms may display the following string in English instead of the localized language: ‘Reading scheduled jobs from file is not supported in this language mode.’ This error appears when you try to read the scheduled jobs you've created and Device Guard is enabled,” the firm says.

We’ll continue to monitor forums for more reports of possible issues with KB4103727, but by the looks of things, the experience has been substantially improved from the previous Patch Tuesday rollout. Users are also in the process of upgrading to the April 2018 Update, and this could be one of the reasons fewer reports concerning KB4103727 reach the web.
