The vaccination records can be added to the Apple Wallet

The COVID-19 vaccination has already started in several regions across the world, including in the United States, and a company called Healthvana has come with a very convenient approach to add such information to their smartphones.

In other words, COVID-19 vaccination records can now be saved on iPhones and Android devices thanks to integration with Apple Wallet and Google Pay for Passes.

The purpose of this capability is to actually remind people to take the second dose of the vaccine, though as Healthvana representatives are quoted as saying by Bloomberg, iPhones and Android devices can also be used as proof of vaccination if required.

For example, users can now show the confirmation of their vaccination to airlines or schools if local authorities demand it, though for now, the only purpose is to just keep track of the two doses.

Only in Los Angeles for the time being

For now, the new feature is only available for mobile phone users in Los Angeles, and it’s all powered by a partnership between Los Angeles County and Healthvana. Whether or not the same thing would be made available elsewhere remains to be seen, but it goes without saying keeping such records on an iPhone comes in much handier than carrying a piece of paper around.

At first glance, adding the vaccination data to the Apple Wallet is possible only after receiving a vaccination confirmation from the local authorities, so theoretically, it can’t be tricked by someone who didn’t get the vaccine.

Like all data stored in Apple Wallet, these records are fully secure, and Healthvana itself explains the company has put several security systems in place, with the data stored on protected Amazon Web Services servers that comply with local regulations to protect sensitive information.
