Apple will begin shipping the new iPhones on Friday, but there’s one question that has remained unanswered until now: how large is the battery coming on these models?

The Cupertino-based tech giant bragged about the battery life of its 2018 iPhone generation during the September 12 launch event, but no specifics were actually provided.

Thanks to a new report coming from China, however, we now have the exact capacity of the 2018 iPhone batteries, confirming that the iPhone XS Max indeed has the largest battery ever on an iPhone.

iPhone XS will feature a 2,658 mAh battery, while the bigger brother iPhone XS Max will come with a 3,174 mAh unit. iPhone XR, which is the most affordable model launching this year, will run on a 2,942 mAh battery.

This is an important increase from the previous-generation models. The original iPhone X featured a 2716 mAh battery, while the iPhone 8 Plus, which was equipped with a 5.5-inch LCD display, included a 2,691 mAh unit.

Fast and wireless charging

Interestingly, despite the larger battery, the iPhone XS Max won’t be the model offering the longest life per charge. Instead, iPhone XR will be the one scoring best in this regard, mostly thanks to its LCD screen and the lack of technologies like the dual-camera system and 3D Touch. Such more advanced features typically require more power to do their job, so by removing them, Apple has managed not only to cut the final cost of the device, but also to improve battery life.

All new iPhone feature fast charging, though they will continue to ship with a 5W adapter in the box. You can purchase the fast charger separately from Apple, however.

Wireless charging is also offered on all the new-generation models, but once again, a dedicated wireless charger will have to be purchased from the Apple Store or any other retailer.
