Survey shows upgrades would primarily choose these models

Apple has been heavily criticized for the prices of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, but this doesn’t mean that the two devices aren’t selling well.

But while it’s too early to discuss the sales performance of the new-generation iPhones, what we do know is that both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the most desired iPhones this year among existing Apple customers.

A survey conducted by Piper Jaffray reveals that no less than 39 percent of the iPhone users want to upgrade to the XS or the XS Max.

“We asked >700 domestic iPhone owners which iPhone they would buy if they were to upgrade this year. 39% pointed to iPhone XS or XS Max, with approximately a 50/50 split between the two models. Our previous model assumed only 35% of units from Xs or Xs Max (with a 50/50 split). The remaining 61% indicated they would upgrade to either the iPhone Xr, 7 or 8,” the analyst firm says.

iPhone XR

However, it’s important to note that the survey does not include iPhone XR, which is the most affordable iPhone configuration launching this year. iPhone XR will go on sale later this month, and given its $749 starting price, it’s expected to account for more than 50 percent of the new iPhone sales.

However, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max attracting such a big number of customers gives hope that Apple can indeed generate a supercycle, especially when combined with sales recorded by the iPhone XR.

iPhone XR will go up on pre-order on October 19, while shipping will kick off a week later on October 26.

Bringing customers to latest-generation iPhones is a priority for Apple, especially because the latest models are available at higher prices, and this would technical mean an increase in ASP (Average Selling Price) for the entire lineup
