New iPhone is just around the corner, it seems

While Apple is projected to launch the new-generation iPhone 13 in September, it looks like there’s more to come from the Cupertino-based tech giant on the smartphone front in the meantime.

A new report from Macotakara indicates Apple could take the wraps off a cheaper iPhone as soon as April.

In case you haven’t figured it out already, this is a new iPhone SE model, which could eventually be called iPhone SE.

And the April ETA perfectly makes sense, as Apple previously unveiled the iPhone SE (2020) in April 2020. The device was based on the iPhone 8 and came with a 4.7-inch display with a home button and Touch ID. The original iPhone SE boasted a 4-inch display and also included a home button with an integrated Touch ID.

iPhone SE Plus maybe?

This time, however, rumor has it the iPhone SE could come not only with upgraded internals but also with a larger sibling.

Previous rumors on the new-generation iPhone SE indicated Apple could launch a Plus model with a 5.5-inch display, similar to the iPhone 8 Plus. Whether or not this is something Apple is looking into still remains to be seen, but the upcoming unveiling is likely to include a new small model too, so there’s a chance the Cupertino giant would end up launching more than just one new iPhone SE this coming April.

People familiar with the matter said in 2020 that Apple was planning to launch a non-5G iPhone 12 in the spring of 2021, with the whole goal being to target markets where 4G remains the top option for customers.

Apple has obviously remained tight-lipped on the successor to the iPhone SE, so for the time being, it’s better to take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism.
