Concept imagines an iPhone Pro without Lightning

We’re getting more and more signals that Apple could kill off the Lightning port on the iPhone with the release of the iPhone 13 in the fall, and while the Cupertino-based tech giant has so far remained tight-lipped on everything in this regard, concepts that keep making the headlines lately provide us with an early glimpse into how such a model could end up looking.

And this concept created by Antonio De Rosa envisions an iPhone Pro concept that proposes several changes, some of which actually make perfect sense.

First of all, it’s the name of the iPhone. Instead of calling this device iPhone 13, De Rosa says it would be much simpler for Apple to just call it iPhone Pro, thus giving up on the numbers and avoiding the awkward moment when the company would have to launch an iPhone 32.

Bye-bye, Lightning!

Then, the concept also envisions what an iPhone without a Lightning port would be like. But instead of Lightning, the iPhone Pro comes with a dedicated port inspired by the Smart Connector currently available on the iPad and allowing us to connect various accessories.

Of course, there are also several design improvements, and the most notable is the smaller notch, which to be completely honest, it’s about time to show up. We’ve been hearing rumors of a smaller notch pretty much every time the company was getting ready to launch a new iPhone, but the size of this controversial design feature has barely changed, so hopefully, Apple makes it smaller rather sooner than later.

The concept is interesting, there’s no doubt about it, but time will tell if the artist is anywhere close to what Apple plans to do on the next-generation iPhone.

As per Apple’s typical release calendar, the iPhone 13 should be announced at some point in December.
