It’s been a while since we last heard about a smartphone involved in a fire incident, and this time, it’s Apple the company that must figure out what exactly happened.

More specifically, a 17-year-old girl from Birmingham says she plugged her iPhone into the charger, and just when she was about to fall asleep, she noticed what she described as flashing orange flames produced by the charger.

The flames caused her duvet to catch on fire, eventually leaver her with burns to the right cheek.

In an interview for BirminghamLive, the girl explains her mother was able to put out the fire without the need of emergency teams, though she now warns to never leave a smartphone plugged in during the night.

Apple already investigating

More importantly, however, is what exactly caused the incident. While the cited source claims the iPhone was plugged in with the original cable but using a third-party charger, the girl explains she was using an Apple charger.

”So 2am this morning I was lying down as you do on my phone. Plugged in my charger and it set alight. My bed cover/duvet set on fire and also caught my face. This isn’t even a cheap charger, it’s an Apple charger. Please don’t go to bed and leave your phone charging overnight. If I was asleep this could have been a lot worse and this could have set my whole family home up with all my family in. Please be aware that this can happen to anyone and could be a lot worse. It's dangerous,” she said.

Needless to say, Apple says it’s already looking into the whole thing, so the company has already contacted the girl trying to figure out what exactly caused the fire and whether the original accessories have been used to charge the device.
