CIRP data shows the base iPhone doesn’t have too many fans

People familiar with the matter claim the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max are the ones selling like hotcakes right now, whereas the standard iPhone 14 and the all-new iPhone 14 Plus are recording rather lackluster sales.

New data shared by CIRP not only reiterates the same thing but also reveals that customers want more storage when buying a new iPhone.

As a result, the base version isn’t necessarily the most successful in terms of sales, as buyers are willing to pay more just to get more storage.

“Consumers continued their long-standing tendency to upgrade from base storage. For the new iPhone 14 models and the more expensive iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, a majority of customers paid a premium for larger storage capacity phones,” CIRP says.

As far as the iPhone 14 is concerned, the new lineup (except for the Plus, which wasn’t included in the research), the data shows that it already performs better than the series it replaces in the United States.

“The three available iPhone 14 models together accounted for 21% of total US sales. This is higher than the 16% of sales for the four iPhone 13 models launched in September 2021, which included iPhone 13 mini. Variations in Apple’s launch calendar challenge these comparisons somewhat, since the iPhone 13 models were only available for two days during the fiscal period ending in September 2021,” CIRP explains.

In the meantime, Apple is battling production challenges due to new lockdowns hitting its partners, so the waiting time for a new iPhone 14 might increase substantially during the holiday season.

At this point, the 1TB version of the iPhone 14 Pro ships in 4 to 5 weeks in the United States, according to the official Apple Store.
