14 DAY TRIAL // Apple was expected to take the wraps off the iPhone 9 this month, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, the company is now believed to be holding back on the launch for at least a few more weeks.
And while we’re waiting for the Cupertino-based firm to unveil the iPhone 9, more information emerges on what the device could bring new to the table. And by the looks of things, one of these new things could be a bigger brother called iPhone 9 Plus.
Evidence discovered in iOS 14 code by 9to5mac indicates that the iPhone 9 Plus could be a 5.5-inch iPhone that will have the same specs as the standard model, only that it’d boast a larger display.
Launch in the fall?
Of course, this makes total sense given that the iPhone 9 is based on the iPhone 8, so it uses both its display and the body, so the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus could very well serve as full replacements for this older iPhone generation. In other words, there’s a good chance that Microsoft pulls the iPhone 8 series completely when the iPhone 9 launches.
Just like the smaller model, the iPhone 9 Plus will come with a front-facing home button and Touch ID integrated, so Face ID won’t be offered. This again makes sense given that Apple wants the device to be more affordable, and premium features like facial recognition would only increase its price.
What we still don’t know, however, is whether or not Apple will call these new iPhones “iPhone 9” and when they are supposed to go live. The coronavirus outbreak has clearly impacted Apple’s planned release schedule, and the latest speculation on this indicates that the company could unveil both the iPhone 9 and the iPhone 12 in the fall after the COVID-19 comes to an end.
