iPhone X is currently the best of the best in terms of Apple’s offering in the smartphone business, but this doesn’t mean that customers don’t have another favorite model.

And data offered by the American Customer Satisfaction Index reveals that iPhone 7 Plus is actually the number one smartphone in the United States, with a score of 85 points.

While it’s surprising to see the two-year-old iPhone 7 Plus leading the charts, it’s also worth noting that this particular model managed to outscore not only the iPhone X, but also all the other Android devices on the market, including those manufactured by Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ was the runner-up in the charts with 84 points, followed by the regular Galaxy S8 with 83 points. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are next, each with 83 points. The anniversary iPhone X is far behind with just 80 points, even behind the iPhone 5s and the Galaxy Note 5. Samsung’s Galaxy S9 wasn’t included in the charts because it only launched earlier this year.

Apple topping the charts

When it comes to companies, Apple remains the preferred manufacturer for Americans with a total of 81 points, basically no difference from the previous year.

“Among the largest manufacturers, the leaders are unchanged. Apple maintains the lead with a stable score of 81, followed by Samsung, unchanged at 80. Motorola climbs 4% to 79 on the strength of its inexpensive Moto devices, which users perceive to be an excellent value. LG also improves, climbing 4% to 77 largely on the strength of its LG G4 model, which ranks just below the iPhone 8. HTC is unchanged at 76, followed by the aggregate of all other mobile manufacturers, stable at 75,” ACSI says.

Apple will unveil a trio of iPhones later this year as well, including a successor to the iPhone X and a Plus-sized model coming with a 6.5-inch display. A more affordable 6.1-inch iPhone is also coming, and it has the biggest chances to become America’s new favorite given its lower price.
