This could be the punch-hole display for the iPhone 14 Pro

Apple is planning some pretty big changes for the iPhone 14 lineup, and one of the most notable is the demise of the notch on the Pro models.

That’s right, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max could no longer come with a notch, as Apple looks ready to embrace the modern approach that others have been using for years.

More specifically, Apple could give up on the notch and instead introduce a punch-hole display that would allow the selfie camera and the Face ID components to be integrated into the screen.

If you believe someone else has already used this idea, you’re not wrong. Front-facing parts integrated into the glass is something that’s quite common already in the Android device ecosystem, with Samsung using a similar approach for most of its flagships.

The Apple approach

We’ve already heard that Apple is planning to use a pill-shaped punch hole design for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, and a photo published on Twitter earlier this week (via MSPU) provides us with an early look at the design.

The skilled designers out there have already created high-quality renders to provide us with an early look at how the pill-shaped punch hole would be integrated into the iPhone, though right now, it’s obviously just a guess based on pure speculation.

In case you’re wondering, only two of the four iPhones to launch this year will use a punch-hole screen.

The iPhone 14 and the all-new iPhone 14 Max will stick with the notch going forward, as Apple is only making this change on the Pro models. This should help the company make a bigger difference between the standard and the Pro versions of the iPhone, therefore providing customers with a more solid reason to choose a more expensive device.
