Apple could finally give up on the notch, it seems

Apple is getting ready to take the wraps off the iPhone 13, and while the device is expected to come with several notable improvements, including a smaller notch, most people are eagerly awaiting the next refresh of the device due in 2022.

And this is because the iPhone 14 will introduce significant design changes, including some that have been predicted for several years already.

Renders published by Front Page Tech provide us with an early look at these new iPhones, and without a doubt, the first thing everybody notices is the demise of the notch.

Goodbye, notch!

Without a doubt, Apple giving up on the notch is big news for the future of the iPhone, so the bigger question is where is the Face ID module sitting if such a change really happens?

The renderings indicate a punch-hole camera, but clearly, this can’t be used for the Face ID components since they typically eat up more space. So Apple has either found a way to make them significantly smaller and therefore integrate everything in the top bezel or the company just wants to give up on this system (very unlikely) and go all-in on Touch ID again.

The fingerprint sensor could therefore return on the iPhone 14 with everything embedded into the glass, an approach that others, including Samsung, have already used on their devices.

In addition to the removal of the notch, the renderings also reveal that Apple wants to remove the camera bump complete and go for round volume buttons. The Lightning port is still there, and this is both good news and bad news.

In other words, Apple isn’t planning to go for USB-C, but on the other hand, it’s not creating a portless iPhone either, so Lightning cables and wired CarPlay would survive for one more year.
