New-generation iPhone expected in the fall of this year

iPhone 13 is the next big smartphone release in Apple’s calendar, though the company is also expected to unveil a new iPhone SE version as soon as this spring.

But the flagship models would go live in the fall, as per the company’s typical schedule, and unsurprisingly, they’re expected to bring major upgrades.

Including for the ultra-wide camera lens, according to a recent report citing Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O'Malley. As it turns out, the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on upgrading the ultra-wide camera from f/2.4 on the iPhone 12 to f/1.8, something that would enable the new devices to take better shots in low-light.

In theory, a wider aperture is good news for those who typically take photos with their iPhones during the night, but of course, we should expect Apple to also introduce an army of optimizations on the software side. So overall, the iPhone 13 would be capable of taking insane shots, though for now, nothing is confirmed.

Portless iPhone?

The upcoming iPhone 13 generation is also expected to introduce other big changes, and people familiar with the matter said the parent company is also considering a portless iPhone that would give up on the Lightning connector.

Without Lightning, Apple would technically bet all-in on wireless connectivity, essentially giving up on cables once and for all. Wireless would be the preferred mode for everything, including charging and data transfers, though for now, it looks like the Cupertino-based tech giant wants to take everything gradually and would only make this change on just one model in the entire lineup.

Of course, it’d then be just a matter of time until the same upgrade is expanded to the full series, with Android phone makers also likely to follow in its footsteps with a similar removal of charging ports.
