Mockups provide us with an early look at the 2021 iPhone

Apple will unveil the iPhone 12 this fall, and the new lineup is expected to come with a design that’s based on the current generation, with some people claiming the devices could feature a notch that’s just a little bit smaller than it is right now.

Japanese site Mac Otakara, however, claims bigger changes are coming to the iPhone in 2021 when Apple is projected to take the wraps off the iPhone 13.

Mockups that the site published envision the new model without a notch and smaller bezels, something that we’ve heard about before but which is rather unlikely to happen in 2021. However, the report indicates that the front-facing parts, which are now located into the notch, could actually be placed under the screen using Samsung technology.

USB-C instead of Lightning?

Another welcome change concerns the charging port. Instead of Lightning, the 2021 iPhone could use USB-C, again a rumor that has been making the rounds lately but which Apple is unlikely to be a fan of.

Going for USB-C could make charging more convenient for those making the switch from Android to iPhone, and at the same time, could also allow the Cupertino-based tech giant to align with the requirements of the European Union, which wants a universal charging port on all smartphones.

However, people familiar with the matter originally said that what Apple plans to do is indeed give up on the Lightning port, but instead of replacing it with USB-C, what the company wants to do is create a completely portless iPhone.

In other words, the charging would only take place wirelessly, while the data transfers will be handled by a Smart Connector similar to the one on the iPhone.

It goes without saying everything’s still in the planning stage at this point, but the iPhone 13 mockups are still worth a look, so click play below to see what this new rumor is all about.
