Report claims a hefty storage upgrade is on its way

Apple is projected to take the wraps off a new-generation iPhone in the fall, and just as expected, the closer we get to this moment, the more information on the new models makes the headlines.

This time, a French report indicates that Apple is planning a major storage upgrade on the iPhone, as for the first time in history the device could be offered with no less than 1TB.

On the other hand, the report doesn’t mention whether Apple wants to bring this upgrade to all iPhone models, but there’s a chance only the Pro and the Pro Max would get it.

At this point, the top storage option on the iPhone 12 is 512GB, so there’s a chance Apple is indeed planning to upgrade to 1TB, though as usual, you should take the info with a pinch of salt.

More storage, less cloud

At some level, Apple’s decision to offer more storage space on the iPhone could eventually backfire, as the deep integration with cloud storage is something that works beautifully for the company.

Many iPhone buyers who run out of storage on their devices end up buying cloud storage, thus having their data automatically uploaded to the cloud where it’s securely stored and available from other devices too.

But on the other hand, if the iPhone ends up getting 1TB of storage, some buyers may no longer need cloud storage, especially as this means the device would come with double the storage it currently has.

But of course, we should also expect a 1TB storage option for the iPhone to be priced accordingly, so if this version indeed launches as part of the iPhone 13 lineup, expect it to come with a $100 or maybe $200 price increase over the 512GB configuration.
