The 2020 iPhone generation could come with some substantial changes, not necessarily in terms of features, but as far as the dimensions of the included models are concerned.

ET News claims Apple will give up on the 5.8-inch iPhone and instead release a 5.4-inch configuration with a display manufactured by Samsung. Needless to say, this model will feature an OLED panel just like the iPhone 11 that it replaces.

At the same time, iPhone 12 Pro Max will be increased to 6.7 inches, and continue to use an OLED screen built by Samsung as well. iPhone 11 Pro Max is equipped with a 6.5-inch display.

According to the report, however, the new iPhones will use a so-called Y-OCTA touch system that will allow the iPhone overall to be thinner, while also reducing component costs. Nevertheless, it’s not known at this point if Apple indeed wants to make the iPhone thinner, or just use the extra space inside to increase battery capacity.

Full switch to OLED

As far as the base iPhone 11 model is concerned, it will make the switch to OLED as well, a plan that first made the rounds in late 2017. Apple moving the entire iPhone lineup to OLED is something that makes sense going forward, although it remains to be seen if this will also produce an increase in terms of pricing or not.

The screen of the 6.1-inch iPhone will be manufactured by Samsung and LG.

In addition, Apple is also planning to release a second-generation iPhone SE at some point in the spring, but this model will be based on the iPhone 8 and feature a 4.7-inch LCD panel. This new iPhone will lack Face ID and continue to feature a home button with Touch ID. It will be available from $399, according to people familiar with Apple’s plans.
