The new iPhone could come with a braided cable this time

The new iPhone 12 is just around the corner, and according to people familiar with the matter, Apple is planning some major changes in the box too.

First and foremost, in an attempt to keep the price down, Apple might not even provide customers with a charger, so instead, the Cupertino would charge extra for such an adapter. In other words, the iPhone 12 would just come with a USB cable, so if you don’t have a charger already, you must get one separately.

As for the cable itself, it’s believed Apple is planning a different approach for the iPhone 12, and this is both good news and bad news.

According to leaker Mr. White, iPhone 12 could come with a braided cable, which without a doubt is a welcome improvement in the long term. Braided cables are more durable, and we all know how important this is for iPhone customers. Apple’s cords can break down extremely easy, and let’s be honest about it, buying a new one isn’t necessarily affordable.

No USB-C just yet

The bad news is that this leak shows Apple still doesn’t want to make the switch to USB Type-C. In other words, iPhone will be offered with a Lightning connector, just like the previous models, so if you hate having multiple cables in your backpack, you need to deal with it for at least one more year.

At this point, however, it’s still not confirmed if Apple indeed wants to ship the iPhone 12 with a braided cable, but this is a change that makes sense, especially given that not even a charger is likely to be included in the box.

According to people familiar with the matter, the iPhone 12 is projected to be announced and go on sale in just a few weeks, so we don’t have to wait too long to find out if today’s leak is accurate or not.
