Apple’s new-generation iPhone is projected to launch in the fall of this year, and the main highlight this year is the addition of 5G support on all models.

Furthermore, Cupertino will launch four different iPhones this year and will increase the screen size of the direct successors to the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

So in theory, the addition of 5G and other features, as well as the bigger screens would technically require more power, which means Apple has no other option than to actually offer bigger batteries on the iPhone 12.

Well, it turns out Apple won’t do that, as new information that leaked via MySmartPrice reveals that the iPhone 12 could actually come with batteries that are smaller than on the iPhone 11 series.

More specifically, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, which is a direct successor to the iPhone 11 Pro, will be equipped with a 2,775 mAh battery. The current model uses a 3,046 mAh battery, so it’s quite a major drop.

At the same time, it’s believed the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which will come with a 6.7-inch screen, will get its power from a 3,687 mAh battery, while the iPhone Pro Max, the model it replaces, comes with a 3,969 mAh battery. Again, this is a massive decrease, so it remains to be seen how this translates to real-life autonomy per charge.

Samsung wants bigger batteries on its phones

According to the linked source, these are the battery specs of the new iPhones:

  • Apple iPhone 12 (5.4-inch) – A2471 – 2227mAh
  • Apple iPhone 12 Max (6.1-inch) – A2431 – 2775mAh
  • Apple iPhone 12 Pro (6.1-inch) – A2431 – 2775mAh
  • Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7-inch) – A2466 – 3687mAh

These smaller batteries on the new iPhones are all good news for Samsung. The South Korean company is working hard to actually increase the battery capacity of all its models, and most recently, it’s been discovered that Samsung is ready to step into tablet territory in this regard.

The firm could bring a 7,000 mAh battery to its smartphones, and there’s a chance massive upgrades would come to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lineups too. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G comes with a 5,000 mAh battery and 45W fast charging.
