Top-rated analyst offers forecast on new iPhones

Apple is projected to take the wraps off the new iPhone generation in September, and rumors regarding its feature lineup keep making the headlines occasionally.

Top-rated Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is trying to set things straight in several regards over the iPhone 11, explaining in a note to investors that the Lightning port wouldn’t be dropped on the 2019 generation.

Apple, he says, won’t make the switch to USB-C, as some rumors have suggested, so if any change on this front is planned, expect it on the 2020 iPhone.

At the same time, Apple will stick with the same three dimensions as on the current iPhone lineup, which means we’ll get new iPhones with 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.5-inch displays. This is also another confirmation that an LCD version will continue to be offered.

Reverse wireless charging coming to iPhone

As far as new features are concerned, Kuo says Apple will begin offering reverse wireless charging, which means the iPhone will be capable of charging other devices as well. This is a feature that Samsung is also expected to add to the Galaxy S10 lineup going live this week, but Apple could restrict it to its own devices, like the Apple Watch or the AirPods.

Also, the new iPhones will come with larger batteries and a triple-camera system on the back. An upgraded Face ID system is expected too, and so is ultra-wide band connectivity, which is supposed to improve indoor positioning and navigation, as explained by 9to5mac.

What’s important to know is that at least some of these features are expected to be exclusive to the largest iPhone 11 model launching in September. Previously, it’s been rumored the iPhone 11 Max would be the only one with a triple-camera system, and Apple could go further with this plan in order to increase sales of its biggest iPhone.

Of course, a certain amount of skepticism is still required given that we’re still some eight months away from the moment when the new iPhones are projected to launch.
