Apple announced iOS 16 earlier this week at WWDC, and thanks to the developer preview that has already been released for testing, we can finally have a look at what’s to come in September when this version goes live for everybody with a supported iPhone.

9to5mac discovered that iOS 16 will allow users to remove even more pre-installed apps, including Find My, Health, and Clock apps.

Needless to say, if you remove these apps, you’re going to lose some essential functionality. For instance, once the Clock app is uninstalled, setting a new alarm or timer is no longer possible unless you turn to a third-party app for such functionality.

The biggest software update in a long time

For the typical Apple user, removing pre-installed apps is big news, as the Cupertino-based tech giant is known as a company that has created a walled garden full of restrictions.

The ability to remove pre-installed apps was introduced with iOS 10, but Apple has gradually updated the list of apps that can be deleted.

The company announced iOS 16 earlier this week, promising that the new operating system version will completely change the way people use their iPhones.

“iOS 16 is a big release with updates that will change the way you experience iPhone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We have reimagined how the Lock Screen looks and works with exciting new features that make it more personal and helpful, introduced iCloud Shared Photo Library for families, streamlined communication through new capabilities in Messages and Mail, and harnessed enhanced intelligence with updates to Live Text and Visual Look Up.”

iOS 16 is currently available as a preview, with the rollout to production iPhones expected to happen in September, as per Apple’s typical release calendar.
