The new OS is projected to launch in September

Apple is projected to take the wraps off the next major iOS update in September, but of course, the company has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to what’s coming in this release.

In the meantime, however, new details come from unofficial channels. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, for example, says iOS 16 will include new interaction improvements and fresh apps, though on the other hand, no further specifics on this were provided.

Certainly, such information is intriguing, to say the least, especially as many expect substantial improvements for widgets.

At this point, widgets are static and do nothing more than to provide information that you can’t interact with, so maybe this is what Gurman is referring to. Users have been asking for interactive widgets for quite some time, but unfortunately, Apple has never confirmed that this is an option it is exploring.

Big software updates for Apple Watch

Gurman also says that major improvements are coming on the Apple Watch front as well, but once again, no specifics were shared.

“While I don’t expect Apple to present a full redesign of the software, there should be major changes across the system, new ways of interacting and some fresh Apple apps. The news about watchOS 9 will be significant as well,” Gurman said.

But while Apple doesn’t want to discuss the improvements that are projected to be part of the next major operating system update, a preview of iOS 16 is likely to be offered at WWDC anyway. Furthermore, Apple will release a beta build of iOS 16 for testing purposes, so it shouldn’t take too long before we’re finally able to try out some of the improvements planned by the company for the operating system.

As it happens every year, iOS 16 will go live for production iPhones that aren’t enrolled in the testing programs in September.
