The iOS ecosystem includes plenty of worthy email apps, and probably the best alternative to the standard Mail is Microsoft’s Outlook.

Based on the Accompli client, Outlook is an app that’s continuously evolving, so there’s no surprise that its number of users keeps improving.

But on the other hand, the default Mail app continues to be a very popular choice for many iPhone users out there. And this is the reason Apple keeps working on improving the experience by adding further enhancements and new capabilities.

iOS 16, for instance, which is the next operating system update coming to the iPhone in the fall, is going to come with several notable Mail app improvements. For example, the Cupertino-based tech giant announced at WWDC that the search experience will be completely overhauled with the release of the next major iPhone update.

iOS 16 to go live in September

“Now users can schedule emails ahead of time and are even given a moment to cancel delivery of a message before it reaches a recipient’s inbox. Mail detects if the user forgot to include an important part of their message, such as an attachment,” Apple explains.

“Users also have the option to resurface a message at any date and time with Remind Later, and Follow Up suggestions automatically remind users to follow up on an email if they have not received a response. Mail also includes the biggest overhaul to search, and uses state-of-the-art techniques to deliver more relevant, accurate, and complete results. Users see recent emails, contacts, documents, and links the moment they begin to search for emails.”

iOS 16 is already available as a developer preview, while a public beta is projected to land at some point next month. The rollout to all supported iPhones will kick off in the fall, most likely in September, as per Apple’s typical calendar.
