The adoption of iOS 16 made solid progress after the September launch, but right now, the trends indicate a substantial slowdown, especially throughout December.

A recent report that analyzes Mixpanel data indicates that right now, the iOS 16 adoption is at 70 percent, all after reaching 66 percent in mid-November. In other words, the month of December brought an increase of just 4 percent.

The numbers are pretty shocking and prove that Apple needs to do better to convince iPhone owners to update their devices.

It’s not a secret that the release of iOS 16 has been plagued by glitches, but on the other hand, the company has been working around the clock on further updates to address them. At this point, for instance, iOS 16 provides a much smoother experience from one end to another, but it’s still hard for Apple to convince holdouts to make the switch.

Paradoxically, iOS 16 is one of the biggest updates in a very long time, as it brings plenty of new features, including support for lock screen widgets.

“The new Lock Screen gallery features a range of options. Users can choose an intelligently suggested photo from their personal library that will look great on the Lock Screen, or a dynamic set of photos that shuffle throughout the day. Apple collections include iconic imagery from Apple; Pride and Unity wallpapers; a Weather wallpaper to see live weather conditions as they change throughout the day; and an Astronomy wallpaper for views of the Earth, moon, and solar system. Users can also create unique designs with their favorite emoji and color combinations, and with multiple Lock Screens, users can switch between their favorites with just a swipe,” Apple said when it announced iOS 16.

iOS 16 is available for the iPhone 8 and newer, so iPhone 7 is officially left behind.
