The adoption of the OS gets close to 90 percent

Apple is getting ready to announce the next major iPhone operating system update, but in the meantime, the current version has reached another important milestone.

Mobile analytics company Mixpanel claims iOS 15 is now running on no more, no less than 88.9 percent of the supported iPhones out there.

In other words, nearly 9 in 10 supported iPhones (iPhone 6s and newer) are already on iOS 15, with only 10 percent still sticking with a previous version of the operating system.

Apple hasn’t provided any new stats on the iOS 15 adoption, but the company’s latest figures, which were published in January, indicated the operating system was running on 72 percent of the devices launched in the last four years.

iOS 16 is just around the corner

Apple is projected to take the wraps off iOS 16 in just a few days at WWDC, with the very first preview to provide us with an early look at what’s coming in this new operating system update.

The company has so far remained tight-lipped on what’s supposed to be part of this update, but a public beta is expected to go live at some point in July.

The rollout to production devices should kick off in September, though at this point, it’s not yet clear what iPhone models are going to receive it.

Rumor has it that Apple will drop support for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which means that an iPhone 7 or a newer model is going to be required. Needless to say, those who want to get the best experience on iOS 16 must have one of the latest iPhone models – if you currently have an iPhone 13 or will buy the upcoming iPhone 14, you are obviously covered, with all iOS 16 capabilities to be available.
