And obviously, there’s no word about a potential fix

Apple’s recently-released iOS 12.1.1 introduces a bug that appears to be killing off mobile data for a number of users, and the worst thing is that the Cupertino-based tech giant knew about it before the launch.

A report from Forbes reveals that cellular data no longer works correctly on several iPhones after updating to iOS 12.1.1, and users explain the issue causes various behaviors on their devices.

While some say that browsing the web with Safari works, but connecting to the web with apps doesn’t, others state that a Wi-Fi connection is required to access the Internet no matter if they use the browser or various apps installed on their iPhones.

A fix doesn’t seem to exist for the time being, and users whose data connection no longer works should contact Apple and require assistance for fixing the problem.

Apple aware of the issue

The weird thing is that it appears that Apple actually knew about this bug before the launch of the new iOS 12 update.

The issue was reported by several beta testers when iOS 12.1.1 was in its early days. Apple rolled out several beta versions of this update, and some users discovered the bug killing off data connections and reported it on various channels, including Twitter.

Furthermore, the official Apple Support Twitter account participated in the conversation and reached out to the affected users to ask for more details, so there’s a good chance that Cupertino knew there was a chance iOS 12.1.1 killed the mobile data connectivity even before pressing the go-ahead button for this update.

As with everything that happens in the Apple world, the company hasn’t acknowledged the problem just yet, so it remains to be seen if and when a fix is released. There’s a good chance users may have to wait until the next iOS update, but this probably depends on how many devices are affected.
