Developer Voidpoint and publishers 3D Realms and 1C Entertainment have just announced Ion Fury, the cyberpunk first-person shooter launched back in 2019, will be getting an expansion sometime this summer. The upcoming expansion is called Aftershock and will be launched on PC (via Steam and GOG), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Aftershock continues the story of Ion Fury's protagonist but in a new universe and new weapons. After defeating the villain in the original game, Shelly Harrison decides to celebrate at a local bar. When explosions interrupt her tasty beverage, she rushes out to find Heskel in a monstrous flying machine, cackling madly as he rockets away toward a mushroom cloud on the horizon.

For some reason, Heskel isn't as dead as Shelly thought, so the fight continues with multiple brand-new zones to explore, new dangerous enemies, new armaments to destroy them with, and some blazing-fast high-speed vehicle combat.

Aftershock continues Shelly’s story in the best way possible: with rockets and high-speed chases. We love seeing the Build engine continue to grow and Ion Fury: Aftershock does some awesome things that we can’t wait to share with you,” said Mike Nielsen, CEO of 3D Realms.

According to developers, Aftershock offers a brand new Arrange mode, which allows players to experience the original game but now enhanced with new enemies, weapons, and more. Not to mention that the game is rendered in the very same Build Engine that powered cult games like Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior.

Although there's no info about the expansion's exact release, we expect the fine folks at Voidpoint to reveal Aftershock's launch date very soon since it's slated for a Summer 2021 release.

Those who haven't played the original yet and would like to give it a try can pick up Ion Fury for just $25 via Steam. No word on the price of the expansion yet, but we suspect all will be revealed once we have a release date for Aftershock.
