There is no word on the specs for the i7 and i9 models

Intel inadvertently revealed details about the 9th generation of processors, and it looks like it's going to be based on Coffee Lake.

Intel controls the release of information about new products very tightly, but the company slipped up and published the Microcode Revision Guidance document, which also happened to contain the names for the upcoming 9th generation processors.

The fact that a new generation of CPUs is in the works is not surprising, but it's interesting to see that the company is using Coffee Lake as a base. Of course, we expect to see the entire range of CPUs, even if the document posted only shows the presence of i5 and i3 models.

No word on i7 or i9 just yet

While a mention of CPUs in guidance PDF might not be the source we're all expecting, it's still an official document. It shows that the company is going to be using Coffee Lake S and lists Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 with a 4+2 architecture, and Core i5-9600(K), Core i5-9500(T), Core i5-9400 with 6+2.

As you already might have noticed, there is no mention of i7. And it also means that Intel fans will have to wait for the Cannon Lake generation a little bit more.

The more powerful of the bunch is, of course, i5-9600K with six cores and six threads, with a clock running between 3.7GHz to 4.5GHz. The slowest model is the Core i3-9000, with four cores and four threads, running at 3.7GHz. Everything else in between can be seen in the official Intel documents.

While is certainly nice to get some word on the new generation, finally, users must be a little bummed out that it's just a refresh of the current generation. The fact that Intel is pushing Coffee Lake a little bit longer is not a bad idea, and we can only hope that they will continue to use the same socket, although there is no indication that's going to change.
