Videos also end up corrupted after iCloud upload

In theory, uploading photos and videos to the cloud should be a convenient way of making sure that your files are safe and secure.

But in the case of iCloud for Windows, it looks like the result is exactly the opposite.

A report from MacRumors points to a series of complaints coming from iCloud for Windows users who explain that after uploading their videos to the cloud, the files ended up completely corrupted, down to a point where watching them is no longer possible.

What’s even more concerning, however, is that some of the users ended up getting access to photos belonging to others, all for a reason that hasn’t been determined.

Apple tight-lipped on the bug so far

It’s not exactly clear why this is occurring, but Apple hasn’t yet issued a comment on the bug. But according to the aforementioned source, there’s a chance the whole thing is caused by a server-side issue, so deleting iCloud for Windows and reinstalling the app doesn’t seem to bring things back to normal.

“iCloud for Windows is corrupting videos recorded from an iPhone 14 pro max resulting in black videos with scan lines. On rare occasions, it is inserting stills into videos from unknown sources, possibly other's iCloud accounts. I've been shown photos of other people's families I've never seen in my life, soccer games, and other random photos. Obviously, this is extremely concerning and does not exactly make me feel safe using iCloud,” one user explains.

At this point, it looks like the platform where iCloud for Windows is running doesn’t make any difference, as the glitch occurs on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

A workaround doesn’t seem to exist for now, so there’s no doubt that Apple should come up with a fix as soon as possible.
