Facebook will no longer be supported by 2020

Hulu has started reaching out to customers to inform them that the Facebook login option would be removed from the service.

Moving forward, the company will only allow access to its streaming services through the traditional email and password regardless of the method that you used before.

In other words, even if you typically log in to Hulu using a Facebook account, you should now be able to access your profile using the email and password that you provided when you signed up.

No word on the reason

Interestingly, Hulu doesn’t reveal the reason that convinced it it’s time to let Facebook behind and stick with the classic email and password combination. The email sent to users reads:

"As of December 4, 2019, Hulu will begin removing Facebook as a login option, and by 2020 it will no longer be supported. Don't worry, you'll still be able to log in with the email and password you used to sign up for Hulu. If you forgot your password, you can always get a reset link to this email (since it's the one we have on file for your Hulu account). Otherwise, there's no action needed on your end. Keep enjoying Hulu just like before."

Some of the users who received this message turned to reddit to ask for more information, especially because Hulu hasn’t provided a reason for giving up on the Facebook sign-in option.

This decision is possibly related to all the privacy scandals that Facebook has been involved in, including investigations started by American authorities earlier this year. In November, for example, California kicked off a Facebook investigation to look into the privacy practices of the social network after it failed to provide information on a series of topics, including privacy settings and developer policies.
