14 DAY TRIAL // Huawei has made it a priority to become the world’s number one smartphone manufacturer by the end of 2020, and part of its strategy is a smart marketing push that involves occasional mocking of its rivals.
After previously parking trucks highlighting its products just in front of an Apple Store, Huawei is now going after Samsung, whose new flagship store in a Brisbane shopping center ended up with a gigantic ad just on top of it.
The Chinese manufacturer seems to have purchased the right place to advertise its new P30 and P30 Pro, as everyone stepping into the flagship Samsung store can’t help but notice the gigantic Huawei ad only a few inches above their heads.
Huawei’s phone sales skyrocketing
While some believe that Huawei is playing dirty and these attempts are nothing more than cheap attempts to boost phone sales, it all seems to be working neatly for the Chinese phone market.
The most recent smartphone sales data published by IDC indicates that Huawei is the only company to have enjoyed a massive growth in the first quarter of the year.
Huawei’s sales went up no less than 50.3% percent in the quarter, according to IDC, reaching total shipments of 59.1 million units. Samsung continues to be the leader with 71.9 million sold units during the quarter (down 8.1 percent from the same quarter a year ago), while Apple is third with 36.4 million units, again down 30.2 percent.
“Huawei is now within striking distance of Samsung at the top of the global market. In China, Huawei continued its positive momentum with a well-rounded portfolio targeting all segments from low to high. Huawei’s high-end models continued to create a strong affiliation for the mid to low-end models, which are supporting the company's overall shipment performance,” IDC says.
Huawei’s strong performance comes at a time when the smartphone market overall fell 6.6 percent.
