If the company wasn’t banned by the United States

Huawei was at one point the most ambitious phone maker in the entire world, as it wanted to overtake both Samsung and Apple to eventually become the biggest name in the industry.

In many ways, the company proved on more than one occasion that this was totally doable, especially as its growth happened at an impressive pace.

But in mid-May 2019, the United States decided to blacklist Huawei, essentially blocking it not only from working together with other American companies but also forbidding the use of any piece of software or hardware developed by a firm founded on American soil.

Huawei’s drop since them has been massive, with the company losing ground in the mobile market in the favor of other companies like Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo, and OPPO.

Huawei consumer business group CEO Richard Yu believes the sanctions imposed by the United States completely changed the mobile race, explaining that the Chinese company would’ve been Apple’s only rival. In other words, Yu believes Samsung would’ve easily beaten Samsung to become the only worthy alternative to the iPhone.

“If it weren’t for the US’s intervention and suppression of us, the world’s major mobile phone manufacturers might be Huawei and Apple. I am not very modest, and this may be the result today,” Yu was quoted as saying by IT Home.

“Others are small manufacturers, including the Korean company (Samsung), which may be mainly sold in the US and South Korea markets.”

Neither Samsung nor Apple responded to these statements, and of course, there’s no chance to see the two companies releasing any comments on the claims. But right now, Samsung is by far the number one phone maker in the entire world, followed by Apple and Xiaomi on the second and third place, respectively.
