Huawei has been making the headlines regularly in the last few weeks mostly because of the US ban that blocks the company from working with American firms.

But despite the US trouble, the Chinese tech giant keeps working on getting its devices ready for launch, and bringing a 5G model to the market is a priority.

Back in February, Huawei announced the Mate X, which was supposed to be the first 5G smartphone that it launches. But due to a delay of the Mate X, Huawei’s first 5G phone is likely to be none other than the Mate 20 X 5G, which is scheduled to go live as soon as this month.

A report from VB indicates that the 5G sibling of the Mate 20 X will be very similar with the original model, only that Huawei will upgrade certain features, like the modem. The 5G smartphone will thus come with the Balong 5000 5G chip announced earlier this year, 8 GB RAM instead of 6 GB, and increased storage from 128 GB to 256 GB.

Running Android

Huawei Mate 20 X 5G will feature the same 7.2-inch AMOLED screen as on the original model unveiled last year, but sport a jade color and a 5G logo to distinguish it from the standard configuration.

The cited source claims Huawei has plans to launch the device in the largest markets across the world, including Europe, China, and the UAE. Pricing could start at a little over 1,000 euros here in Europe, but these specifics are yet to be confirmed.

What’s more important is that the phone will run Android, an operating system that Huawei was banned from using after the company was added to the US blacklist back in mid-May. Full details, however, will be shared later this month when the 5G phone launches officially.
