Our notch is better, Huawei says in odd comparison

Making fun of the iPhone X notch has become an international hobby these days, and after Samsung turned to a notch haircut, here comes Huawei’s turn to mock its American rival.

In a rather unexpected comparison, Huawei says the notch of the Huawei P20 is actually a much better design choice than the one of the iPhone X, explaining that the “minimal notch” allows for “more notifications.”

It didn’t take long for this ad tactic to backfire, after a photo published by Oliur Rahman on Twitter revealing how Huawei tried to show the world that its notch is better.

A cluttered top of the screen full of notifications was shown side by side with the much cleaner iPhone X approach, making many people joke that this may in the end be an ad for Apple.

Notches, notches everywhere

The same photo was used by Huawei to praise the P20 notch during the official announcement of the device back in March, when company official tried to highlight how advanced this little piece of technology really is. The P20 notch is the home of a speaker, an ambient light receiver, and a camera, and also leaves room for more notifications on the screen.

Apple will remain consistent in its notch design, and the upcoming iPhone generation will also feature the same approach. The company will take the wraps off three iPhone next month, and all will come with a notch and a facial recognition system.

Leaving all of these aside, the P20 is without a doubt one of the most advanced smartphones you can get right now, and that notch is part of its feature arsenal. The device helped propel Huawei to the second place worldwide in the top phone makers chart, overtaking Apple and now trailing Samsung.
