The United States government has recently decided to block Huawei from working with American company, essentially banning the Chinese tech giant from using products like Android and Windows on its devices.

While this can obviously fuel the tension between China and the United States in the already-famous trade war, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei says there’s no reason for his country to punish Apple.

The Cupertino-based iPhone maker is seen by many as the company becoming the next target in China’s attempt to seek revenge following the Huawei ban.

But Zhengfei says China shouldn’t go after Apple, explaining they have no fault for what happens right now with this company.

“That will not happen, first of all,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg referring to a possible Chinese retaliation against Apple.

“And second of all, if that happens, I’ll be the first to protest. Apple is my teacher, it’s in the lead. As a student, why go against my teacher? Never,” he continued.

Trump shouldn't call me, Huawei CEO says

As far as the claims that Huawei has been stealing technology from American companies, Huawei’s CEO says the simple fact that they managed to be ahead of their rivals is what made the United States government ban them.

“I stole the American technologies from tomorrow. The U.S. doesn’t even have those technologies,” he stated. “We are ahead of the U.S. If we were behind, there would be no need for Trump to strenuously attack us.”

Explaining that he doesn’t even want to talk to US President Donald Trump, the Huawei CEO says he thinks the ban is nothing more than “a big joke,” emphasizing that his company has nothing to do with the trade war between the United States and China.

Huawei is currently hard at work on replacing some of the tech it was using from American companies, including the operating systems developed by Google and Microsoft. Huawei’s own operating system, internally codenamed Hongmeng, is projected to be finalized for the Chinese launch in the fall of this year.
