Devs requested to publish app in Huawei app store

Huawei has no other option than to prepare for a future without Google after it was banned from working with American companies, and this is exactly what it’s trying to do right now with an email sent to the top Android developers.

The Chinese tech giant is emailing the devs of Android apps to request them to join Huawei AppGallery, which is the company’s very own app store that serves as an alternative to the Google Play Store.

Because it’s no longer allowed to use Android on its smartphones, Huawei is developing an in-house operating system that would be installed on future models.

And since a large app ecosystem is mandatory for a modern smartphone, Huawei plans to continue offering support for Android apps, therefore it’s pushing harder for AppGallery to grow with the addition of the top listings already in the Google Play store.

Full support for devs publishing apps in AppGallery

An email obtained by XDA reveals that Huawei tries to entice developers to make the transition to AppGallery with a series of stats that emphasize how successful its brand and app store are. For example, Huawei says it sold more than 350 million phones in the last 2 years, and half of them were shipped to buyers in western markets.

This gives developers a good opportunity to monetize their apps, especially as the AppGallery comes preloaded on all these phones. There are 270 million monthly active users, Huawei says.

The Chinese company also offers support to developers who agree to port their apps to AppGallery.

“In order to guarantee a smooth usage of your App for our users, Huawei is committed to provide you with full support, to help you publish your App into AppGallery,” the email reads.

Huawei’s operating system, which would run Android apps and come with AppGallery preloaded too, is due in the fall of this year in China, while the international launch is set for 2020.
