Huawei has officially returned to the list of brands allowed to test the Android Q beta builds on their devices.

Google previously removed Huawei from the Android Q beta page, most likely following the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump earlier this month.

According to the order, Huawei is no longer allowed to do any business with American companies, therefore it can’t use their products for the manufacturing of new devices.

These include Android and Windows, the two operating systems that Huawei uses on smartphones and PCs. As a result, it was believed that Google removing Huawei from the Android Q beta program page was a consequence of the ban.

However, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is once against listed on that website, which gives hope that Android devices manufactured by the Chinese tech giant could also receive the upcoming version of the operating system due in the summer.

Huawei building its own Android replacement

The US ban allows Huawei to continue to deliver updates to existing devices, but on the other hand, it forbids the company to install Android on new products.

In an attempt to reduce the impact of the ban, Huawei is working on its very own operating system that would replace both Android and Windows. Built as a universal platform, the operating system that’s codenamed Hongmeng is expected to debut on Chinese devices in the fall, ahead of the international launch scheduled for 2020.

In the meantime, however, Huawei says it’s still willing to use Android on its devices, emphasizing that it’s one of the companies that contributed to the development of the operating system in the first place.

It remains to be seen if Huawei is eventually allowed to ship Android Q to all its devices, but for the time being, the company can continue testing the beta on the Mate 20 Pro with no limitation whatsoever.
