Company announces HP ENVY Wood Series at Computex

HP used this year’s Computex event to take the wraps off the brand-new ENVY Wood Series, a new lineup of devices that are manufactured with authentic wood.

HP going for wood on its laptops isn’t necessarily surprising, as the company has previously been experimenting with several premium materials that would set the ENVY laptops apart from the rest of the crowd, including leather.

The wooden laptops will be sold in three different color combinations, all with a wood finish: Natural Silver with Pale Birch, Nightfall Black with Natural Walnut, and Ceramic White with White Birch.

While in terms of looks the laptops obviously provide a very premium feeling, HP didn’t want to ignore the under-the-hood part either, so the company used powerful hardware like Intel’s 10th generation processors called Ice Lake. AMD’s second-generation Ryzen processors are also available with Radeon Vega Graphics.

Four models, all coming with Alexa built-in

The four models, called ENVY 13, ENVY x360 13, ENVY x360 15, and ENVY 17 will go on sale later this year, according to HP itself, but specifics would only be shared closer to launch. The 17-inch model will only be available with an Intel processor.

For the time being, what we do know is that HP wants these devices to tackle the high-end product market, so don’t expect them to come cheap.

When it comes to software, not only that they would run the latest version of Windows 10, but the laptops will also integrate advanced capabilities like Wake on Voice and Wake of Fingerprint reader. In other words, you can simply wake the device by simply scanning the fingerprint on the integrated sensor.

Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant comes pre-installed, albeit users can always return to Microsoft’s Cortana at any moment if they want to.
