And therefore make sure no data remains on the servers

Microsoft Edge is a great browser, there’s no doubt about it. Running on the same engine as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge comes with a long list of features, some of which have turned it into a must-have application for some users.

I personally love the vertical tabs feature, and while other browsers out there have similar capabilities, the implementation in Microsoft Edge is close to perfection.

One of the things that users can do in Microsoft Edge is to have their data synced across devices, in which case they need to log in with the same Microsoft account on all devices.

Because of this feature, some data is stored in the cloud, so if you stop using Microsoft Edge and want everything to be removed from the cloud, here’s precisely what you need to know.

It all comes down to a cloud data reset, and it can be done in a very simple way.

The easiest way to remove your data from Microsoft cloud comes down to two steps.

First of all, just turn off the sync capabilities in the browser, so no new data would be uploaded to the cloud. To do this, follow this path in the browser:

Settings > Profiles > Sync > Turn off sync Next, when the synchronization capabilities have been turned off, you can proceed with the next step, which comes down to deleting the data that is already stored in the cloud. For this step, you need to go to the following path: Settings > Profiles > Sync > Reset sync > Uncheck “Resume sync on this device after resetting sync > Reset Microsoft explains that resetting the data stored in the cloud can also help fix synchronization problems that users could encounter when trying to have their data roaming across multiple devices.

“There are situations in which you want to reset your Microsoft Edge data in the cloud. For example, you want to synchronize your data, but Microsoft Edge reports that it's unable to synchronize the data. Another example is to make sure that your data is removed from Microsoft’s cloud. In both cases, Microsoft Edge lets you perform a cloud data reset,” the company explains.

Needless to say, the whole process shouldn’t take more than a few seconds, but on the other hand, it all depends on how much data is stored in Microsoft Edge and in the cloud. The longer you used Edge, the more data will probably be located in the cloud, so the process could therefore take a little bit longer. In some cases, it could reach up to several minutes, Microsoft explains.

“A data reset can take from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on how much data you've stored in Microsoft’s cloud. In some cases, you might see a message saying that a reset couldn't be completed and a suggestion to reset again. In this case, wait a few hours and try to reset the data again. If you're still unable to reset your data, contact Microsoft Edge Support,” the company says.

One very important thing you need to remember is that you must uncheck the option to resync the data after the reset.

“After a data reset has been successfully completed, data will once again synchronize from your device if you chose to resume sync after the reset. You'll need to sign back in on your other devices if you want to sync from those devices. However, if you didn’t choose to resume sync, then your Microsoft Edge data is removed from the cloud and your data will no longer synchronize,” the software giant emphasizes.
