14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s recently released Windows 10 Anniversary Update does bring a plethora of new features and improvements, but there are users out there who simply can’t get it to work, no matter how hard they try.
In some of these cases, installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update fails with various errors, and as we’ve already told you, 0x80070057 and 0xa0000400 appear to be two of the most common.
While turning to the Media Creation Tool can help in some cases, it seems that the solution is actually a little bit simpler and can let almost anyone successfully install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
The workaround
The workaround comes from our reader Alberto Berbacchi, who has found a very effective way to deal with the aforementioned errors, and several others have already confirmed that his solution works like a charm. Here’s what he says worked in his case:
“Empiric solution supposed to work for all devices. Disable LAN or WLAN connection immediately after the Anniversary update tool tells the verifying download phase has been concluded (may be some conflict with Windows update routine). Worked fine for me on 5 different PCs.”
At the moment, Microsoft is yet to publicly acknowledge the issue, but judging from the number of reports that have reached the web since the release of the Anniversary Update, there’s no doubt that the company is aware of it, and the Windows team is already investigating.
In the meantime, however, the aforementioned workaround seems to solve the issue, but keep in mind that it doesn’t necessarily mean that it works for everyone. And yet, if you’re trying to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update but get stuck with errors 0x80070057 and 0xa0000400, then this trick is at least worth a chance.
If that doesn’t work, clean-installing the Anniversary Update might be the only way to go, but this involves backing up your data first. To do a clean install, you first have to get the Media Creation Tool and build installation media such as a USB drive or a bootable DVD.
