And fix installation issues or other problems with CUs

Long-time Windows 10 users certainly know that installing a new cumulative update is a risky game to play, as these releases sometime fail to install or even worse, they end up causing various issues on a device.

For Windows 10 users, this is something they’d rather avoid, and this is one of the main reasons many people just decide to avoid installing the latest cumulative updates.

From a security perspective, this isn’t by any means recommended, albeit given all the problems that have been experienced lately, it’s something totally understandable moving forward.

Windows 10 cumulative update installation issues can sometimes be resolved in the easiest possible way: with a manual installation of this update.

For the Average Joe, however, manually installing an update isn’t necessarily the most straightforward thing to do, pretty much because the Windows Update system should be able to do the whole thing more convenient.

So the question is how do you download and install a Windows 10 cumulative update? The installation process comes down to a simple double-click on the Windows update installer, so let’s just focus on the download part.

For this tutorial, we’ll use the latest Windows 10 version 1809 cumulative update as an example for the manual download options.

First of all, you need to determine which update you need to download. In our case, the update is KB4520062, but if you don’t know which is the latest cumulative update for your system, just go to this page to see all the releases. This site lists all Windows 10 versions released so far, along with the cumulative updates that users can download plus the changelogs for each of them.

To manually download a cumulative update, you have the following options:

Microsoft Update Catalog

This particular option is the one that is also recommended by Microsoft for those who want to get the standalone package for each update.

This method can be used after determining what update you need to download. So head over to the Update Catalog here and using the search box at the top, look for your cumulative update.

Make sure you click the version that can be installed on your device, as Microsoft lists both the x86 and x64 versions for each cumulative update. Open the listing for the cumulative update and then download it.

Official KB page

On the other hand, if you’re trying to determine what update to download and end up viewing the official KB page, you can actually find the download link from the Update Catalog right on this site.

For example, for Windows 10 cumulative update KB4520062, the official KB page is this. Open the page and then scroll down to the lower part of the screen where Microsoft displays the available download options, together with a link to the Update Catalog. All Windows 10 cumulative updates are available on the Update Catalog.

Softpedia’s Windows 10 update page

The third option is the one that doesn’t require too much searching because the Softpedia Windows 10 cumulative update page lists the latest releases that you can download in chronological order, so it’s easier to download the most recent update.

We have separate listings for the latest Windows 10 feature updates, as it follows:

Windows 10 version 1903
Windows 10 version 1809
Windows 10 version 1803
These are the Windows 10 versions that are still supported today for Home and Pro SKUs, so click the page for your Windows 10 version, click the download button and then you should be able to see the latest cumulative updates or each release.
