Blackbird Interactive, the studio behind Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and upcoming Homeworld 3, revealed yet another game that they have been working on for many years – Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

You're probably wondering why the folks at Blackbird Interactive don't focus on Homeworld 3 instead of dividing their energy and resources between projects. We can't answer that question, but since the game was in development for “many years,” it's probably not going to cost the studio too many resources.

Anyway, Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a unique type of game, which features true-to-life physics and demolition effects. As the name suggests, you'll be playing as a spaceship salvager who must work hard to pay his debt by purchasing salvaging rights to increasingly large and valuable ships.

We identified early in development that we wanted to release Hardspace: Shipbreaker on Early Access. We have a clear vision for what we think the game wants to be but there are still some things we need to figure out and we thought it would be fun to bring in the Early Access community to help us discover these things together,” says Trey Smith, Creative Director on Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

According to developers, the new genre shows promise and they're convinced they're just scratching the surface in terms of the potential. Hardspace: Shipbreaker will enter Early Access this summer, but you can wishlist the game on Steam right now.

At launch, the game will include 2 classes of spaceship to salvage, multiple upgradeable salvaging tools and perks, as well as the first act of the story campaign. While in early access, Blackbird Interactive plans to add more spaceship classes, missions, daily challenges, leaderboards, modding support, and a lot more.

There's no word on the price yet, but more information will most likely be revealed once developers announce a release date for Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
