14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has introduced its new-generation iPhones as part of a press event that some considered to be the greatest in recent history following the news that the Cupertino-based company shared with the audience.
And while the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR were the ones getting all the attention, there’s a small detail that was observed by none other than Ryan Day, a Senior Communications Manager for Microsoft’s Surface.
The images that Apple used for the iPhone XS presentation videos look similar to the ones that Microsoft itself showcased during the Surface Studio launch approximately two years ago.
Screenshots that Day posted on Twitter show the Apple presentation video side by side with the one for the Surface Studio, presenting a similar concept whose purpose is to highlight the quality of the display.
Who copied whom?
The tweet is close to going viral, and obviously, it has sparked debate in the Microsoft and Apple communities on whether the iPhone maker has indeed copied the images used by its Redmond-based rival or not.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Apple uses such images in its presentation videos, and the company, in fact, bundled similar photos during another launch back in 2016. So while at first glance it may seem like Apple copied Microsoft, it may eventually end up becoming a who copied whom controversy.
“I agree with @apple, the images we used for the @surface Studio launch were stunning,” Ryan Day tweeted just after the iPhone XS launch party came to an end.
Needless to say, some of the comments making the rounds lately accuse one or another of copying rivals, and Microsoft itself is being blamed for making the Surface Studio too similar to the iMac.
