14 DAY TRIAL // If you think you can tell apart two different phones, you might be considered some kind of guru in the United States, if we are to judge from the results of a survey conducted by decluttr.
The study, which included 2,000 adult Americans, revealed that approximately half of the respondents had no idea what phone they were using and couldn’t identify their device when looking at the full smartphone lineup of the same manufacturer.
Samsung Galaxy S9+ owners apparently are the ones who can tell apart their devices the easiest, as 71% of them correctly identified their model when inspecting Samsung’s product portfolio.
On the other hand, the hardest devices to spot were the iPhone XR and the iPhone 7 with 56% of the owners actually failing to point to their phones when looking at more iPhones.
And no, it doesn’t stop here.
Most Americans think their phones support 5G
A significant number of Americans don’t even know what their phones are capable of, and approximately 60 percent of the Samsung Galaxy S7, S8, and S9 owners are not aware that their devices support wireless charging.
In the case of Apple, things are even worse. No less than 86 percent of the iPhone X, XR, and XS owners don’t know their smartphones support NFC, and around half of the respondents were aware that these devices offer water resistance.
This is the point where the study could make you laugh.
“Around a third of Americans state that they own a 5G-capable device, despite the select choice of devices, the limited availability and the huge cost,” the study shows.
In other words, they think they have 5G even though they don’t. And some even believe their phones are faster because of this imagined 5G support.
“The majority of those who stated they owned a 5G-capable device (62%) claim to have noticed improvements to their mobile service while using the 5G network, which is not widely available,” decluttr concludes.
