So what’s Apple trying to tell us with this invite?

Apple has finally confirmed that its next iPhone trio would see daylight at a dedicated event on September 10, so the company started sending out invites to journalists who want to attend the unveiling.

As it happens every year, the invite itself includes a teaser of what’s to come, albeit Apple remains completely tight-lipped on everything so it’s up to each and every one of us to decipher the message.

It goes without saying that this isn’t an easy thing to do, especially because everyone comes with their own version as to what Apple might be trying to tell us with the picture.

The photo attached to the article is the official press invite that also includes event details and the “By innovation only” tagline.

While we’re not going to discuss the innovation thing because this is something that everyone seems to argue on depending on how much they like Apple, the company logo in the press invite (and the way it’s colored) is certainly hiding something.

Before moving to some of the meanings that people believe the drawing hides, let me offer you some context.

Apple will unveil three different iPhones next month, all of them successors to the current models.

This means we’ll get upgraded iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS Max models, and while their names are not yet confirmed, everyone expects these to be part of the “iPhone 11” family. Hardware upgrades will obviously be introduced, along with a series of other changes, some of which might actually be teased in this press invite.

So what do people think is the meaning of the colorful Apple logo in the press invite? Here are some of the guesses I’ve come across in the last few hours:

> The colors of the upgraded iPhone XR model (iPhone XR is currently available in white, black, blue, yellow, coral, and PRODUCT(RED), so colorful logo could represent the new color lineup)

> An iPod announcement (I don’t see it, but some people think the purple part has the typical shape of an iPod, while the colors represent the actual versions of the device)

> The rainbow logo might represent Apple’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, something that the company has been supporting for a long time

> The return of the classic rainbow logo on Apple devices – this multicolored logo was first used on the original Macintosh in 1984, so it could make a return on this year’s iPhone

> A celebration of the iMac G3s – released in 1998 and updated in 1999, this model came with colorful translucent colors, and some believe this Apple logo in the press invite could be a way to mark the 20th anniversary

> Some people think the red and yellow, which aren’t translucent, could represent health improvements, as they look like fruit slices (I know, right?)

So which one is it? If I were to bet, I’d say two of these guesses are way more likely than the others: the colors of the iPhone XR successor and the return of the rainbow Apple logo.

It’s not the first time I’m hearing people discussing about the return of this colorful Apple logo, and Apple apparently believes this is just the right moment to do it. The 2020 iPhone, on the other hand, comes with so many more upgrades, so if this is indeed the case, I think Apple should have waited until the next model to re-introduce its rainbow logo.

We’ll finally figure out what is the hidden message of the Apple event teaser next month on the 10th when the Cupertino-based tech giant officially takes the wraps off its new devices.
