The firmware update adds In-Camera Horizon Leveling

GoPro has just announced the availability of the 1.21 firmware version targeted at its latest action camera model, namely the HERO9 Black unit, which implements In-Camera Horizon Leveling through a new digital lens called “Linear + Horizon Leveling.”

In addition to that, the HERO9 Black camera gets support for new modes, such as Max Lens Mod, Media Mod with audio metering, Display Mod, Webcam mode, HindSight, and Scheduled Capture.

Last but not least, the 1.21 firmware adds more screen saver options for both displays (front and rear), includes interface improvements, and implements general bug fixes.

When it comes to installing this release, save and unzip the downloadable archive, transfer the newly-created “UPDATE” folder onto a formatted memory card, safely remove it from your computer, and insert it into the camera while it’s powered off.

Now, if you turn on the HERO9 unit, the device will automatically cycle through a number of beeps, reboot several times, and if all has been done properly, it should show an “UPDATING” message on its display.

Upon completion, you will be able to read an “UPDATE COMPLETE” message on your camera’s display. However, if you get a “Camera Update Failed” error, remove and re-insert the unit’s battery, restart the whole process, and hopefully you won’t receive that message again.

With this in mind, download GoPro HERO9 Black Camera Firmware 1.21, follow all steps described above to properly apply it on your device, and enjoy the changes this new release brings.
