Google has released the Android Security Patch for June 2019 for all supported Pixel devices, as well as devices from other manufacturers, addressing recently discovered security vulnerabilities and fixing various issues.

Consisting of the 2019-06-01 and 2019-06-05 security patch levels, the Android Security Patch for June 2019 is here to address a total of 22 security vulnerabilities discovered by various security researchers in the Android System and Framework, Linux kernel components, Qualcomm components (including closed-source), as well as Media framework, which is affected by a critical security flaw.

"The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in Media framework that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process. The severity assessment is based on the effect that exploiting the vulnerability would possibly have on an affected device," reads the security bulletin.

Improvements for Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 devices

Apart from addressing security issues, the Android Security Patch for June 2019 also fixes various issues for some of the supported Pixel devices. It addresses a bootloader issue on Pixel 2 devices causing them to freeze during boot, a camera issue on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones causing the camera to crash during video recording, and a bug that causes the Netflix app to hang on Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL.

Last but not least, it improves the accuracy of the "Ok Google" hotrod on Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL devices. The Android Security Patch for June 2019 is now rolling out to all supported Pixel devices, and it should also be available shortly for many Android devices from other hardware manufacturers, including Essential, so please update as soon as possible for a more stable and secure Android experience.
